Bastide de Sainte-Estelle

Three days in the Luberon: a supper under the plane trees, a small ceremony in a stone chapel, and a long table in an olive mill. We would love you there for all of it.

Our Story

How We Met

We met on the 17:42 from Avignon, which was late, as it always is. Amelia had the window seat and a paperback with the cover torn off; Noah asked what it was because he had nothing else to read. It was a field guide to Mediterranean trees. She lent it to him for the rest of the journey and he returned it four months later, annotated in pencil.

The first house we rented together had an olive tree that nobody had pruned in a decade. We spent a whole March learning how. That tree is still there, and so are we.

The ceremony is in the chapel at the top of the lane, at half past four, when the light comes in sideways through the west window. Afterwards we walk down together through the olives to the mill for the apéritif, dinner and whatever follows. Nothing is far, and nothing is hurried.

Venue

The bastide

Sainte-Estelle is an eighteenth-century farmhouse on the south slope above Lourmarin, with a walled kitchen garden, a chapel at the top of its lane and an olive mill that has not pressed anything since 1962. Noah's aunt has looked after it for twenty years. The cypresses along the drive are the ones you can see from the village road. If you get lost, aim for those.

Logistics

Getting there

Lourmarin is an hour from Marseille and forty minutes from Avignon, at the foot of the Luberon. There is no station in the village and taxis are rare, so plan the last leg before you land.

Getting there
  1. 01

    By air

Marseille-Provence (MRS) is the closest airport, about 65 minutes by car. Hire cars go quickly in June — book one with the flight.

  2. 02

    By train

TGV to Aix-en-Provence TGV or Avignon TGV from Paris in under three hours. Both are a 45-minute drive from the bastide.

  3. 03

    By car

Leave the A7 at Cavaillon or Pertuis and follow the D943 through the Combe de Lourmarin. Parking is in the lower meadow; someone will wave you in.

  4. 04

    Around the village

A shuttle leaves the Auberge du Figuier at 3:45 on Saturday and brings everyone back after midnight. The walk is twenty minutes, uphill on the way there.

Where to stay

A few places we know and like, from the house itself outward. Mention our names when you book; the village is small and everyone already knows.

  • Auberge du Figuier

Twelve rooms around a fig tree, on the square in Lourmarin. We are holding eight until the first of May.

  • Rooms at the bastide

Six simple rooms in the house, kept for family and anyone flying in from far away. Ask us directly.

  • Hôtel du Cloître

Larger and a little grander, in a former convent on the edge of the village. Twenty minutes on foot, or the shuttle.

The mill seats sixty and the chapel a few less, so we are counting carefully. Tell us by the first of May, and tell us what you cannot eat.

Please kindly respond by Saturday, May 1, 2027 to help us finalize our arrangements.

we are hoping for a yes
